The College of Education, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, organized a workshop entitled “Colors and Mental Health” to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, which include the third goal (good health and well-being) and the fourth goal (quality education). The workshop was held and opened on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 12 noon in the Humanitarian Building, Studio Hall 401, and concluded on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 9:30 am in the Humanitarian Building, Hall 309. The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Thanaa Bahaa El-Din Abdullah, a specialist in counseling and psychotherapy, and was attended by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Hamid Lafta, a rapporteur in the Design Department at the College of Fine Arts. The workshop addressed the role of color psychology in promoting mental health and alleviating life pressures, psychological tensions, anxiety, and depression. It also highlighted the importance of expressing feelings through colors as an expressive tool for personality type and its role in improving mood and enhancing creativity and psychological balance. Individuals achieve a high level of mental health. Several case studies related to this topic were also reviewed. A questionnaire was distributed to the course participants to measure the relationship between colors and mental health. This provided a comprehensive scientific study to determine the strength and direction of the relationship and to come up with recommendations and proposals to strengthen this relationship, which would positively impact the mental health of university students.
Assistant Professor Ali Mahdi Saleh, a representative of the University's Center for Continuing Education, participated in the discussion.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants emphasized that colors have a direct impact on our psychological state, as they can lift our spirits or depress us. We can choose the mood that supports our day in the details of our day, based on our psychological, professional, and social needs, and wear the color that aligns with our personality. Therefore, colors can be used as allies during our day and night.
